The Ugly Jersey: A Short History

By the 1970s, Canterbury of New Zealand was supplying kit to so many teams that its factories were left with a problem: what to do with so many remnants of fabric?

The solution: stitch them together and market them as 'practice jerseys'. With no two items the same, the shirts became known as Uglies and were embraced by both players and fans.

Now embedded in the brand's rich history, the Uglies collection continues with tradition, highlighting the quality and modernity that is Canterbury. These colourful, mismatched tops didn’t just become some of the coolest rugby jerseys available, but they became a legend - made to be ugly, worn to look good.

Each Canterbury Ugly Jersey is one of a kind and colours will vary between each item.
